High-Temperature Resistant Waterproofing System for Warm Climate Applications
 

APP modified bituminous waterproofing membranes are designed for roofing systems exposed to prolonged high-temperature conditions.

Under continuous solar radiation, roof surface temperatures may exceed 80°C. Conventional bituminous membranes may soften, resulting in deformation and reduced dimensional stability.

This APP modified membrane incorporates atactic polypropylene (APP) modifiers, which significantly improve high-temperature resistance and thermal stability.

The system maintains structural integrity at temperatures up to approximately 130°C without flow or deformation, making it suitable for hot climate regions.

Torch-Applied Installation System and Structural Performance

 

This APP modified bituminous waterproofing membrane is installed using torch-applied welding methods.

The lower surface of the membrane is heated until the bitumen layer melts, allowing it to bond securely to the substrate. Seams are also heat-welded to form a continuous waterproof layer with high sealing integrity.

The polyester reinforcement (polyester mat) provides high tensile strength, typically ≥500 N/50mm, and ensures resistance to structural movement.

The membrane also exhibits sufficient elongation, allowing it to accommodate minor substrate cracking without rupture.

Surface finishes may include polyethylene film, fine sand, or mineral granules depending on application requirements.

Material Selection and Climate Suitability

 

APP membranes are optimized for high-temperature environments. In contrast, SBS modified bitumen membranes are more suitable for low-temperature regions due to superior flexibility.

Therefore, APP systems are typically recommended for warm and hot climate zones, while SBS systems are preferred in colder regions.
