It functions as a separation, filtration, drainage, and protection layer in civil and environmental engineering applications.
The fabric is commonly installed beneath or above geomembrane systems to provide protection against puncture from sharp aggregates and to maintain soil layer separation.
The material is manufactured from polyester or polypropylene fibers in either short-fiber (staple) or continuous filament forms.
Production processes include needle-punched nonwoven and woven construction, each providing different mechanical and hydraulic performance characteristics.
Functional Performance and Engineering Applications
The geotextile allows uniform water permeability, enabling efficient drainage and preventing water accumulation in soil structures.
At the same time, it retains fine soil particles, preventing soil migration and maintaining structural stability.
The material provides high tensile strength and excellent resistance to installation stresses without tearing or deformation.
It also offers chemical resistance to acids and alkalis commonly found in soil environments, ensuring long-term durability.
In addition, the fabric provides cushioning and protection when used in combination with geomembranes, reducing the risk of puncture from angular rock particles.
Typical mass per unit area ranges from 100 g/m² to 500 g/m², depending on project requirements.
